ARTIST STATEMENT
My work falls into two distinct but interconnected practices. My utilitarian ceramic work is grounded in a deep connection to the natural world. Working with clay—an elemental, earth-derived material—grounds me both physically and spiritually, fostering a connection to the earth and to God. The functional objects I create are intended to be used and enjoyed, inviting moments of connection and the making of memories in everyday life.
Alongside this, my mixed media practice engages memory, faith, and compulsion through the use of personal symbols and metaphors. I incorporate repetitive processes such as hand sewing, writing, and the hammering of pins as acts of meditation. These gestures allow me to slow down and reflect, processing lived experiences through material and repetition. This body of work explores transformation and responds to signs I attribute to a higher power.
